Generally, kids start choosing what they want to listen when they are 3years old. Then, they concentrate on the sounds that they want to listen, and ignore the other sounds as noises.
The kids who are younger than 3 years old cannot choose any sounds. They are hearing all sounds around them including the songs and movies you play for them but they are not listening to them.
They do listen to the sounds from people who interact with them(especially from their mother).
If you want them to learn language, you need to interact with your kids in that language. You can talk about music you listened with them, or TV show you watched with them in he target language. (Do not play music or TV shows when you are talking to them.)
